Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series overview:

This year Nutri-Grain upgrades their long-term support to become a major partner and naming rights owner of our Ironman and Ironwoman series within SOS.

Given the elite nature of the Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman competition, and in line with previous SLSA run professional series trial events, the number of competitors in ironman events will be 20 in heats and 21 in Finals. (except R4 endurance format) This will maximize the number of qualification opportunities for aspiring elite athletes.

With the exception of Round 4 at Torquay Beach, all Ironman and Ironwoman heats and repechage races will be the only events to take place on day 1 of Summer of Surf events.

Summer of Surf is a ‘ SLS special event’. Therefore courses and official instructions will vary from traditional surf sports carnival layouts from time to time for the promotion of safety, course integrity, and in some cases broadcast entertainment.

Sponsorship

Whilst we are working with athletes to create as many opportunities to display personal sponsors as possible, we will need to cover or remove personal sponsors from craft in some cases where an individuals sponsor conflicts with one of our series partners.

We do rely almost entirely on our fantastic partners to create the events, athletes prize pools, and cover broadcast costs for Summer of Surf and need to live up to all of our sponsorship obligations.

Therefore the conditions of registration for each event must be adhered to.

These conditions essentially state that in order to receive any prize monies and points for SOS event finals, all athletes must wear event sponsor race shirts and swimwear (where applicable), place stickers on craft and allow GoPro’s to be attached to race craft when asked.

Overall series point score calculations

Similarly to previous years, competitors will be awarded points for finishing in all finals and repechages. Each athlete’s 3 best results, (points allocation detailed below) from any of the 6 series races will determine overall results and qualification into the SLSA run Nutri-Grain Finals Weekend in February.

A competitor will be awarded 40 points for 1st place in a Nutri-Grain Ironman or Ironwoman round at Summer of Surf, the following placings will then decrease by 1 point consecutively down through all finalists (eg. 1st = 40 points, 2nd = 39 points , 3rd 38 points…).

The athlete that completes the repechage but fails to qualify for the final by only 1 place will be awarded 1 point less that the lowest placed finalist, points will continue to decrease by increments of 1 down to last place in the repechage.

Should there be a draw, a count back of single highest individual placing’s will take place.

Qualifiers into Nutri-Grain Finals Series

Following Summer of Surfs Grand Finale at Surfers Paradise, there will be a stand-alone Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman finals weekend live on Fox Sports with a $200,000 prize pool.
