The 2021/22 Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf finale is set to take place the 11th & 12th of February with the Shaw and Partners Shannon Eckstein Classic.
In the largest racing schedule the Summer of Surf has ever presented with nine events successfully being run and won on the Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Victoria and Western Australia, the Summer of Surf Series is set to reach its conclusion at the home of surf sports: Northcliffe Surf Club.
Shaw and Partners Co-CEO Earl Evans is ecstatic to watch the season’s finale go down.
“We are so proud to support such an exciting summer of racing. We have already seen some of the best surf sports racing in history go down and with both overall series honours and $130,000 of prize money on the line I think the best racing is still to come!”
The event is proudly supported by Major Events Gold Coast and Mayor Tom Tate is very excited for all the action.
“We love our city’s major events calendar and this epic contest tops the list,” said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
“The best surf athletes battling for serious prize money and all in honour of the GOAT himself – Shannon Eckstein. Bring it on!”
Northcliffe’s very own Matt Bevilacqua sits atop both the board and ironman leaderboards and will be aiming for the quinella as well as his share of the $20,000 prize money up for grabs in the Shannon Eckstein Ironman race.
“I am so excited to be leading both the board and Ironman series heading into the final event. Shannon was such an inspiration to me growing up and I would be so stoked to win my second Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic as well as the overall series!”
Clubmate and long-term friend Matt Poole has announced his retirement and is looking forward to the opportunity racing on his home beach for the very last time as he caps off an incredible career.
“It’s really fitting that I started my professional career as an Ironman at Northcliffe and I will also end my professional career here. I am really excited to race this weekend!”
Danielle Mckenzie has her hands on both the ironwoman and ski race trophy while Lizzie Welborn is within striking distance to clinch both the ironwoman and board race titles. With 10,000 points on offer we could see some serious shake ups in the rankings so we the live streamed finals package will be a must watch if you can’t make it down to Northcliffe at 1pm on Saturday.
