Max Brooks was earmarked as a potential star of ironman racing when he won the U19 Australian ironman title earlier this at scarborough beach WA. Now less than a year later, Max has had a breakthrough victory in the Surf Ironman Qualifying Series. In one of the toughest field of men ever produced in the SIQS Max outlasted the worlds best dashing across the line narrowly in front of Tanyn Lyndon to take line honours a very important early lead in the series.

Kirsty Higgison was a series contender in the 2014 SIQS series, and returned to Alexandra Headland this week to prove she has what it takes to mix it when the best in the sport. The initial swim leg saw the entire field tightly bunched together, it wasn’t until the final Ski leg where Kirsty surged to the lead using her powerful ski leg to paddle down a wave clear of the field and cruise up the beach to her first SIQS victory.

SIQS round 2 heads to Thirroul beach on the 6th of December where NSW athletes will attempt to upstage some of the fancied Queensland rivals in what will be some terrific racing. All the action kicks off at 12:30 pm. See you all down there!
