The Newcastle region has been a breading ground for champions over the years and has consistently produced elite athletes across all disciplines of Surf Life Saving. However, its been a while since we have a seen a true-blue Novocastrian in the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series. And now there are 2 blokes from Redhead who ready to change that.
Isak “The Coz Cat” Costello was an age group sensation, and after winning multiple State and Australian medals across a wide range of events, a spot in the professional series looked imminent. The 22 year old sat on the cusp of turning professional for a few years but couldn’t quite take that next step. However, with the “New Look” Nutri-Grain Ironman Series format “Cossie” has finally gotten his chance. Costello is currently 13th overall in the Nutri-Grain Ironman series and is consistently mixing it up with biggest names in the business. After a pair of solid results in some quality fields we cant wait to see what Isak can do in front of a home crowd this weekend.
As a teenager Daniel Collins already possessed one of the most lethal swim legs in Surf life saving. Now after a couple of strong seasons of developing the rest of his Ironman repertoire Collins has quickly become a regular in Nutri-Grain Ironman Series. The Redhead prodigy is having a breakout season and after 2 opening rounds he is now 12th overall in the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series. The ever-improving Collins is having his best season to date and after a top 10 performance in round 2, he has established himself as a threat for years to come.
