Sunshine Coast to host Shaw and Partners Hayden Kenny Classic

It’s race week with Alexandra Headland hosting the first Summer of Surf 10,000 event in history with the Shaw and Partners Hayden Kenny Classic.

Racing will take place Friday the 10th & Saturday the 11th of December with over $100,000 of cash and prizes on offer as well as crucial points for the overall Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf Series.

The Hayden Kenny Classic will serve as a celebration and recognition of Hayden Kennys incredible achievements and contributions to the surf sports world since winning the inaugural Australian Ironman title in 1966.

Long-time Summer of Surf competitor Jett Kenny who has regular features on the board and ski race podium is looking forward to racing on his home beach this weekend in an event that means so much to his family.

“I think it’s pretty special for Grandad to get this form of recognition and I’m super excited to be able to put my foot on the line and compete in an event honouring my family name,” Kenny said.

Sunshine Coast Council events portfolio holder Councillor Jason O’Pray said Summer of Surf was another example of council supporting top-class entertainment and events in our region.

“The Sunshine Coast is delighted to be hosting the Shaw and Partners Hayden Kenny Classic at Alexandra Headland in what will be a great celebration of surf sport and pay homage to one of Australia’s greatest life savers and proud Sunshine Coast native, Hayden Kenny.

“We trust that all of the athletes and spectators will have an incredible stay on the Sunshine Coast.”

In an exciting addition for competitors on top of the $100,000 of prize money, numerous Summer of Surf partners have generously bolstered the prize pool with thousands of dollars worth of prizes which will be given away in the LSKD Surf Race, We Are Feel Good Inc Ski Race, Mr Strange Eyewear Board Race and the Ryan Surfboards Under 17 Ironman & Ironwoman race.
